Precision Nutriton Grad and Nutriton Coach, Guy Prihar

Guy Prihar, like many people who come to Precision Nutrition for help, is really into the science and always ready for a deep dive.

In 2016, then in his mid 40s, Prihar felt very sluggish in the afternoons. It got to the point that his energy slumps were affecting his work as a lawyer.

He had always taken good care of his health and fitness. So he asked himself, "What's wrong? What am I missing? Is it a nutritional matter?"

His questions led him through a rabbit hole with nutritional information. He experimented with low-carb and keto diets, which helped with his initial bursts of energy.

"The more I learned, the more curious I became," he explains. “After a while, I decided I wanted more of my own information. I didn't want to just rely on what people were saying on the internet. "

And so it came about that he took that Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification– with no plans to ever become a professional nutrition trainer.

Curious about Prihar's experience, we asked:

Here is what Prihar had to say.

Guy Prihar had important questions about his diet so he earned the Precision Nutrition Certified and became his own expert trainer.

1. Why did you choose Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification?

While Prihar was looking for ways to learn about nutrition, he heard good things about PN. And he noted that many of the online trainers he respected were PN certified.

So he dug a little.

“I've heard that Precision Nutrition is really up to date with the latest research, the actual published data. And that's exactly what I wanted, ”says Prihar.

“I wanted to understand how things work and see the latest research. That drew me to PN. "

2. Why certification? Why not just study for free on the internet?

Some people in Prihar's situation would just go online.

And this is where Prihar started too. He received results from keto and low carb, as well as the online groups he attended.

But after a year he wanted more.

It wasn't that he was determined to make big changes in his own health and fitness. Most of the time he wanted to learn.

He wanted to learn things for himself from a reliable source.

And he didn't want to waste his time doing what he calls "bro science".

He explains, “Suppose someone achieves a great body transformation for himself or herself. Then they come up with some sort of exercise routine or diet like this, "Here's what I did. You should do this". I never buy this because I don't necessarily trust someone's self-reporting. I actually want the data see and understand how things work. "

In addition, Prihar wanted a trustworthy source that would bring everything together in one place for him instead of trying to put it all together himself.

3. What did you like best about the certification material?

Like many science-minded people, Prihar is wary of much of the information that is being passed on these days.

All the more so as he now works in the legal field and actually has a degree in biology.

"I really like that PN points to actual research that I can find if I want," says Prihar. "I even looked at some of the PN paper cited in the textbook."

He was also pleased to see that the scientific concepts he was familiar with were being well communicated.

"There was some basic information that I already knew and that I learned years ago while studying biology," he says. "I found that PN did a good job presenting this information, which gave me more confidence in the information that was new to me."

4. Was Precision Nutrition Certification Worth the Money?

Prihar's answer is simple:

"Yes," he says. "I wanted the latest information, so it was worth it for me to get it."

“I really enjoyed reading the material. It was cool to revisit a part of biology I learned at university years ago, so I got a kick out of it. "

However, unlike his college education, certification made him think about the real-world application of the scientific concepts he was learning.

"I particularly liked how this was done at the macro level," he says. “While I would study genetic interactions or protein-protein interactions, for example, PN takes them to a higher level – as we observe on a performance level and on a human level. This is what this means for people: I really appreciated that. "
